On the night the Democratic National Convention made Obama the first African-American ever nominated by a major party, Clinton acknowledged that his "preferred candidate" — his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York — had fallen short. But, he said, "like her, I want all of you to support Barack Obama in November."
